A Visit In Naya Raipur

During my stay in Raipur the capital of the Indian state Chhattisgarh, I had the opportunity to visit the huge development project called Naya Raipur (New Raipur). In an area roughly extending over 8000ha and located 17 km to the south east of Raipur, the new capital of Chhattisgarh Naya Raipur is being constructed under the supervision of the Naya Raipur Development Authority. The decision towards a newly planned capital was made after the formation of the new state Chhattisgarh in 2000. Read more »

Some Impressions of a Mapping Survey in Hyderabad

During my two months stay in Hyderabad I conducted a mapping survey for the field research part of my thesis. Two different research areas were chosen for a land use mapping survey, the ward Bholakpur consisting mostly of well-established slum areas and a considerably larger area around Fathenagar on the north-western fringe of Hyderabad. The mapping was mostly conducted on foot and only some areas were mapped on a motorbike. Because I was only used to mapping natural features like geology, soil or river systems in mainly European rural areas, the mapping of human activity in an Indian mega urban setting was a new and interesting experience.

On the Streets of Hyderabad

A Culinary Souvenir

Before I came to India I heard a lot about the famous cuisine that is feared by most Europeans due to its pungency. Now that I stayed in Hyderabad for 6 weeks, I have to say that the food is superb. But personally speaking I think it isn’t that hot. I would consider the food here quite tasty. Read more »
