A visit of Vaalserberg (Three-Country point)

Three-Country Point
Aachen is the westernmost city of Germany, located along its borders with Netherlands and Belgium. Aachen is situated at the middle of Europe and it is great place to travel and finding interesting places to visit.  More than 4 months has been passed and I visited many places near to the Aachen. From which I like the most is Vaalserberg.

When I come to Aachen I think that I had crossed many international boundaries to reach Germany, but I never thought that I have been that place where the boundary of three countries meets. Yes, that is in Vaalserberg and also called ‘Mount of Vaals’, it is a hill with a height of 322.7 meters above NAP (Normaal Amsterdams Peil, vertical datum in use in Europe) and the highest point in mainland Netherlands.

The three country point called ‘Dreiländerpunkt’ (German name) which is well-known tourist attraction and knows as a famous Triple point area all over the world. The point that border of Germany- Netherlands-Belgium comes together. It is located on Vaalserberg i.e. Mount of vaals. Vaals is a city on south-eastern part of the Netherlands and only 5 km west of the city center of Aachen. The city buses of Aachen run every couple of minutes to Vaals. You need to leave the bus near the border of Germany and the Netherlands and walk until you reach Vaalserberg.

One of the interesting parts of this journey is when you walk through borders on foot. The position where these two countries are separated is interesting to see. On either side of this line, cars, houses, shops etc. exist. In a way that some belongs to Germany and some belong to the Netherlands. You need to walk more for couple of minutes to the reach the highest point of Vaalserberg to visit each of these countries from there. The exact point is marked by a small, unimpressive stone pillar. There is a tower (King Baudouin tower) offering a grand panorama of the surrounding landscape there. You can go to the roof of this tower, and have a great view of all these three countries at a same time.

Besides, there is a symbolic circle where the stone pillar located in center of the circle and initials of these three countries are denoted and we did photography with them. That was a unique experience to be in three different countries at the time.
