In India the calendar is filled with a large number of holidays and festivals of Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis and Buddhists. Some of them are celebrated all over India and some of them only regionally, wherever certain beliefs or traditions might be predominant. Recently I had the opportunity to experience the celebration of Krishna Janmashtami in Bombay.

Why Varanasi has potable water problems?

Varanasi city is located on the banks of the river Ganga. It is also situated right over parts of Indo-Gangetic plain which has the largest aquifer system in the country. The climate of the area is such that it receives good amounts of rainfall in monsoon season which recharges the aquifer system in good amounts. Although studies have mentioned that the groundwater level in the Varanasi area is going down, there is still enough water for the needs of the people. Then why is clean drinking water is so inaccessible to the people of the city? Why there are so many water borne diseases? Why do the people of the city complain about foul smell from the water being supplied to them? Most important of all, why is there not enough water for the entire population? Writing an Article

Writing an Article is quite a hard job, but a very nice one, too. Mostly when we do our dissertation, we spend our time with thinking, doing research in the internet, speaking rarely with some persons who understand our thoughts. But for the article we are usually working in a group, so this is already a lot of fun, because we are able to share our thoughts. Then we put all our thoughts together in some writing and again we discuss, how everything can fit in a nicely way. Read more »

Another attempt to recover the Hussainsagar lake, Hyderabad

Finally, it looks like Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is serious about cleaning of the Hussainsagar Lake which has shape of heart and is also located in the heart of Hyderabad city. In my previous blogs about Hussain sagar, I have mentioned about the current situation of pollution of this beautiful lake. Also, may other researchers are working and writing more about this issue. Whenever, I visited Hyderabad for the purpose of work, I always had a walk around the Hussain Sagar lake and it always made me feel sad like any other citizen of Hyderabad by realizing the loss of this precious resource of water. And that too, in the region, where, there is always scarcity of water. Read more »
